Victoria's Fifth Birthday Party

It may be years that go by when we're still talking about the weather the day of Victoria's 5th birthday party more than we talk about what an awesome party it was.

One week before the party I started checking the weather online.  It wasn't good from the start and only got worse as the week went on.  It actually said, Thunder and Rain All Day.  Hell, that's not good for an outdoor party of littles and animals.  What's a worse combo??  Finally, I decided It is what it is.  Deal with it.  Mark got a big tent from my bro. As if that was going to stop the blowing winds and pouring rain anyway.  I sent out a mass email that said, It will be held outside regardless and please dress for the rain.  Ha, and also don't forget the pink people!  So the day came and holy smokes did it rain.   Oh, it rained so hard Mark refused to put up the tent.  Our gorgeous secret cake was delivered in the rain.  That lifted my spirts, but only slightly.  I decided I wouldn't be able to wear my pink dress in the rain and ran to the store to buy a pink shirt for me and Christian at 1:00.  It was raining cats and dogs.  (I think that's my favorite idiom:-)

I returned home about 2:00 with a sad face and two pink shirts.  Crap.  After two months of planning and a small fortune this party was going to suck. . .if it even happened.  The animals can't make an appearance in lightning.  Then I get a msg from the owner of the animals she hurt her knee earlier that morning at a different event with the animals.  But she was sending over two girls to do her job and assured me everything would be fine.  Hmmm, really?!?  is what I was thinking!!

Then a small miracle happened.  Not only did it stop raining but the clouds parted and suddenly there was only blue glorious sky.  I remember standing outside barefoot while the kids were napping looking up to the sky thinking, "Holy crap!!  Is this really going to happen??"  It was now 3 pm.  60 minutes till pary time.  It continued to be beautiful.  Things stated drying out and people started texting me like crazy that the sun finally appeared and how wonderful it was.  I love when people are happy for other people even when they can't actually attend the party.

Mark and I started setting up the backyard - minus the tent - and it looked great.  We were barely finished when the first guests started to arrive.  As I look back and recall this as My Most Favorite Party I've Ever Thrown maybe that's why.  It could have been completely destroyed but instead it was fabulous and I finally learned to ask for help and enjoy it!
The Details
The theme was Pinkalicious.
The hardcover Pinkalicious was the guest book and the cake was the talk of the party.
Ohh, I loved it!
But I think Victoria loved it even more!
Her pretty little dress even matched the cake.
Ahhh, those details!!

The gifts.

And more gifts.
She likes to hug them all!
This is the first year she didn't need any help at all.

I love this family picture!

Friends & Family

More friends and family.

When Victoria was two she had an Elmo party with a pinata.
It snowed on April 28th that year and the party suddenly had to be put inside.
I vowed to never have another April party which is why she now waits a month to have her party.
I figure since she has a pony at her party now, that means no pinata.
Three years later I finally caved.
We hung that sucker in the kitchen for two weeks for the kids to drool over and appreciate and tell stories of who going to hit it the hardest and how V will get the first and (hopefully) the last shot.

She did! - with a bit of rigging by daddy. ;-)

Five pounds of candy later. . .
everyone was happy.

Then it was straight to the animals.
Christian actually refused to hit the pinata because he was 'way too busy' grooming the animals.
Well, ok then buddy!

A lot of people don't understand why was have bday parties like this.
There are many reasons.
But the #1 reason is the look on her face in these pictures!
Also, because it's freakin' awesome!

Love it!
One of my faves!

Look who's grown into riding the horse!
He hopped right on.

Our little friends loved it too.

Ooooh, that beautiful cake!
I swear Victoria loved it even more than I did!

All her friends.
It was a gorgeous day in more ways than one.

We made a lot of very very wonderful memories that beautiful afternoon on May 21, 2011.

Her Last PreSchool Field Trip

I was lucky enough to be able to chaperone Victoria's last preschool field trip ever.

When I thought I was so fortunate that the only day I could get into the doctor and dentist happened to be her field trip day. . .then realized it was going to be rainy and cold.

There they are all bundled up waiting to pet the horse.
I don't have any pictures of the hay ride we started out on because it was raining and really bumpy and not really that fun.

This shot itself was worth the racing around town & freezing
my tushy off.  Oh, how she loves animals!

I was chosen as the chaperone to pass out kittens and puppies.
I was proud, but then have no pictures.

There were baby chicks, geese and turkeys passed around between 14, 5 year olds.
I was a nervous wreck, but nobody else seemed to be worried.

'Keep your toes on the hose' were the key words of the day.

The hay jump was one of the chart toppers of the afternoon.
That's Jenna.

Victoria analyzing the situation with all the roosters running around.

Riding a goat??

Toes on the hose again.

Carrying corn to the horse and trying to spill as little as possible.

Victoria's turn!

Keep your hands behind your back is the rule here. . .
until you go inside the pen to pet them. . .
who makes these weird rules??

I love this one.
Her teacher 'helper' helping her gently caress the fragile baby chick and pass it to a friend.
I love SST Preschool!!  They are wonderful!

BFF's passing baby chicks.
Really?!  They did fine but I don't think I'd trust half my second graders to do that!
Maybe that's the point?

This poor horse lost an eye to cancer.
That's the only one Victoria wanted her picture with.
As soon as we got into the car she talked about how sad she felt for the horse and asked about 50 questions as I navigated down the dirt road.

All in all, I'm very glad I got to share the experience with her.

A Nightmare

Last night I was really really tired.  When I'm really really tired I have some crazy and vivid dreams.  Last night I had my worst nightmare of my life.  I'm still bothered by the images I can't shake out of my head.

It went like this:

Mark, Christian and I were in vacation in New York.  We were eating at a small little restaurant on the sidewalk of the main street in New York laughing and having a wonderful time.  Christian got up from his chair and Mark screamed, "Grab him!" Like he usually does.  I didn't run as fast as I could and my worst nightmare began.  He ran right out into the street.  In the dream I remember thinking that cab will stop.  But it didn't.  It ran right into him th second before I could reach him.  His little body flew through the air and I began screaming and running to his body laying there bloody and lifeless.  Somebody had him wrapped in a blanket and put him on a clipboard and handed his little body to me.

Then I woke up.

But I woke up with my body totally stiff and both arms and both legs were totally numb.  Like they were asleep but a deep deep sleep that I've never felt and I couldn't move.

It was so terrible.  I couldn't wait for him to wake up this morning to kiss his warm and chubby little cheeks.  I'm thankful it was my night to rock him and enjoy his cuddles a little longer tonight.

Victoria's Special Day With Olivia

When Livi's friends' kids turn five she takes them on a special birthday outing.
Victoria was sooo excited for her special day.
It was extra exciting because Liv kept the whole day a secret so we didn't know where or what they were going to do either.
(While they had their special day I took Christian to Old Gem Theater to see Wizard of Oz.)

The first thing they did was make jewlery.
Victoria chose the beads and beaded a necklace and bracelet by herself the proceeded to name off the beads.

\
So proud!

Next Liv asked V where she wanted to go.
She choose Teddy Bear Park.
It was just opened for the season so it's not surprising she couldn't wait to go there.
They also stopped at the candy store where Victoria got her little brother
a bag of candy too.

Dreaming about fudge.

Then they lunched at Leo's.
Another of her favorite spots.

I love my kids having fun with other people beside us.
It warms my heart to know she loves Liv this much to have so much fun.

What a special day for our girl who's growing up so fast.
A super special thank you to Liv for making such wonderful memories with her.
Everyone needs an 'Auntie' Livi!!  If only we could all be so lucky.
